L’année dernière nous avions dénoncé la détérioration de la situation de la liberté de la presse dans la France de Sarkozy. Nous aurions pu espérer un redressement de la situation. Non, nous perdons une fois de plus des places et sommes maintenant à la 43ème place entre le Surinam et le Cap Vert.
Le rapport sur la liberté de la presse de Reporter Sans Frontière 2009 est maintenant disponible. Cette étude met en évidence le nouveau recul de la France, tant pour son classement -8 places que pour la note (10,67, soit -3) qui est la plus mauvaise de l’histoire du baromètre de RSF.

Cette détérioration s’explique par l’augmentation des tensions entre la presse et les autorités de la République :
- Pression sur les journalistes pour qu’ils révèlent leurs sources.
- Pression de Nicolas Sarkozy qui a choisi de rompre avec la pratique qui voulait que les chefs de l’Etat français ne poursuivent pas les journalistes et a porté plainte, au pénal, contre Le Nouvel Observateur
- Pression encore de Nicolas Sarkozy qui a accusé les publications plusieurs organes de presse de « s’attribuer la fonction d’opposition ».
- Pression de l’UMP, qui a attaqué verbalement l’AFP pour n’avoir pas repris l’un de ses communiqués de presse.
- Pression de la police qui a convoqué quatre journalistes accusés de vol et de recel après qu’ils aient diffusé les propos tenus hors antenne par Nicolas Sarkozy, notamment à propos du service public dans les médias, avant une interview lors du journal du soir de France 3
- Pression de la justice qui a multiplié les mises en examen, convocations et perquisitions. La France détient désormais le record européen en la matière.
Ensuite, la réforme de l’audiovisuel public, initiée en mai 2008 et promulguée début mars 2009, a mis en place la nomination des patrons des médias de service public en Conseil des ministres.
Dans un tel contexte, la vigilance citoyenne doit se renforcer pour dénoncer cette dérive.
