Juste après son élection, Nicolas Sarkozy nous avait promis une république irréprochable. Après trois ans la situation c’est détériorée. L’affaire Woerth-Bettencourt n’est qu’un des symptômes de cette dérive. Jean-Louis Debré résume très bien la situation : « Pour moi ce n’est pas une surprise. Le cas Bettencourt n’est pas le seul et nous ne serons sans doute jamais le fin mot de l’histoire, et ce n’est pas le plus important. En effet, c’est le fait qu’Eric Woerth ait été trésorier de l’UMP et ministre du budget qui est choquant. C’est cette double casquette qui fait que les soupçons sont fort, c’est de remettre la légion d’honneur à des personnes qui n’ont rien fait pour la mérité sauf d’avoir peut-être contribué au financement de l’UMP qui légitime le doute.
Une république irréprochable est une république dans laquelle on ne met pas les personnes en situation de conflit d’intérêt. Claude Guéant dit « Un honnête homme comme Eric Woerth ne songe pas à prendre des précautions parce que la tentation du conflit d’intérêt ne traverse même pas son esprit. » Cela ne dédouane pas Eric Woerth et m’inspire deux possibilité : soit Eric Woerth est naïf et il ne se rendait pas compte de ce qu’il faisait ; soit il se rendait compte et en honnête homme aurait dû refuser. Dans le premier cas, il peut voir franchit la ligne blanche sans s’en rendre compte. Dans le second, il devrait démissionner afin de mettre fin au risque de conflit.
Sarkozy nous avait aussi dit qu’il ne nous trahirait pas, qu’il ne nous mentirait pas. Ceux qui ont encore des doutes devraient ouvrir leurs oreilles.
