L’Inde moderne est encore parcourue par des troubadours. Ici on les appelle Bauls. Dans ce pays où avouer être athée laisse votre interlocuteur sans voix, les bauls disent que Dieu n’est ni dans les statues, ni dans les temples, ni dans un paradis, ni après la mort, Dieu est en chacun de nous maintenant, Dieu est notre part de lumière. Ces troubadours modernes nous invitent à nous libérer de nos possessions qui nous entravent et de prendre le chemin de la vie, le chemin de l’amour, un chemin intérieur (Nine Lives, The song of the blind minstrel, W. Dalrymple). A bout de ce chemin, ou devrais-je plutôt dire au long de ce chemin, on rencontre le ‘Moner Manush’, l’oiseau tapi en nous, l’homme de cœur.
Est-ce une religion sans Dieu, une forme de panthéisme, d’humanisme ou simplement le fait de croire en l’amour. En fait peu importe, le point commun est de croire en l’Homme. Le chemin de l’amour est exigeant et les Bauls abandonnent tout pour partir sur les chemins. Cela semble décalé, voire subversif pour nos sociétés de consommation. Et, faute d’amour, ceux qui ventent ce chemin sont perçus comme des moralisateurs qui appuient là où ça fait mal.
A l’opposé il y a ceux qui jouent avec notre part d’ombre, nos pulsions négatives. La forme moderne est le populisme qui prône œil pour œil, le chacun pour soi, l’égoïsme. Ce chemin est facile et aujourd’hui on assiste à un véritable festival. Quel chemin voulons-nous prendre ? Ce sera un des enjeux de la prochaine élection. En attendant, écoutons les Bauls ou redécouvrons nos troubadours.
