La société de consommation doit en permanence de créer de nouveaux besoins, c’est le rôle du marketing, de la communication. Nous avons été élevés avec une phrase en tête : « comme je serais heureux si j’avais ce que je n’ai pas ». Cette phrase nous condamne à être dans l’avoir et non l’être, à être en permanence dans l’attente d’un bonheur futur qui jamais ne sera, nous empêche d’oser être soi. Cette phrase condamne une partie de la population à vivre dans la pauvreté. Cette phrase condamne notre planète. Il est urgent de changer.
Au début de la société de la consommation, certains économistes pensaient que la croissance ferait disparaître la pauvreté. Hors cette prédiction s’est heurté au fait qu’en même temps que la croissance réduisait la pauvreté, la société de consommation créait de nouveaux besoins. Le seuil de pauvreté n’était donc pas un niveau absolu mais relatif et plus les pauvres bénéficiaient de la croissance plus les besoins augmentaient. La société de consommation maintient une partie de la société dans la pauvreté.
Cette situation tient au fait que le système à comme moteur l’envi qui se résume en une phrase : « comme je serais heureux si j’avais ce que je n’ai pas ». Cette phrase n’a pas pour seul conséquence de maintenir une partie de la population dans la pauvreté, elle nous rend tous malheureux. En effet, cette phrase ne peut jamais se résoudre car dès que je parviens à avoir ce que je n’ai pas, cette chose est en ma possession et cesse d’être ce que je n’ai pas. Je ne suis donc toujours pas heureux ! C’est cette impossibilité qui fait que le moteur fonctionne aussi bien, c’est ce qui nous condamne à être en permanence mal heureux. La société de consommation se nourrit de notre malheur.
Ce piège est particulièrement efficace car nous tirons des petits plaisirs, des plaisirs compensatoires qui nous apportent un peu de lumière dans notre existence vaine. Comme une cigarette, un verre de vin, ils nous donnent sur le coup un plaisir mais éphémère.
Sommes nous condamnés à perpétuité, est-il possible de s’évader. Oui, mais cela est difficile, non seulement nous sommes prisonniers mais aussi nous sommes devenus inadaptés, étrangers à notre réalité intérieur. C’est un chemin long fait de petit pas, d’éveils successifs. Nous nous sentons désorientés, confus mais expérimentons de nouvelles choses, nous commençons à jouir de ce que nous avons, à nous connecter sur notre réalité intérieur.
Il est urgent que nous nous décidions à changer si nous voulons retrouver notre vitalité intérieure, notre énergie de vie. Il est urgent que nous changions car en même temps que nous, c’est notre planète que nous condamnons.
