L’image que j’avais de l’Inde avant d’y vivre était faite de clichés et d’ignorance. Je trouvais l’architecture et les sculptures un peu kitch. Mon voyage à Mamallapuram, ou Mahabalipuram pour les Indiens, a radicalement modifié ma perception, mon œil c’est ouvert à d’autres formes, c’est éduqué et aujourd’hui je suis devenu un amateur, j’aime cette forme d’art, je l’éprouve physiquement mais suis capable de l’analyser. Mahabalipuram est l’apogée de l’art de la dynastie Pallava qui a dominé le sud de l’Inde au VIIème siècle, merci le Lonely. On y découvre des temples dont certains sont des monoblocs taillés dans la roche,
on y découvre des sculptures et des bas reliefs qui sont des vraies fresques,
on y découvre l’humour.
Mais Mahabalipuram c’est aussi la plage et un coucher de soleil sur le Golf du Bengale.
Aussi, rien d’étonnant à que ce lieu ait été classé au patrimoine mondiale de l’Unesco.
